Net Worth Spreadsheet
Record what you own and what you owe each month, and watch your net worth change over two years.
What's inside
One workbook, in Excel + Google Sheets. A net worth tracker you update once a month in about ten minutes:
- Start here: four steps and what the colors mean.
- Dashboard: your net worth, the change over 12 months, total assets and total debts, with charts of net worth by month, assets against debts, and assets by type.
- Accounts: up to 25 assets (cash, investments, retirement, real estate, vehicles) and 15 debts (mortgage, car loan, student loan, credit card), each with a type and where it is held.
- Balances: a 24-month grid. At the end of each month, type each balance; totals and the change from last month fill in.
- Summary: a one-page net worth worksheet for the latest month, by type, against a year earlier, with your debt-to-asset ratio, cash share and home equity.
- Settings: the first month and the names of your asset and debt types.
- Sample check: a sample couple with 18 months of balances and the answers worked out separately. Every row shows ✓ when the formulas are right.
The sample, so you know what to expect
A couple in their mid-thirties with a home, two cars, two 401(k)s and a student loan. In June 2025 their net worth is $329,434.43, up $64,412.42 (24.3%) in a year. April 2025 is the one down month, $13,046.63 lower after a market drop, and the chart shows it.
Who it's for
A good fit if you
- Want a net worth spreadsheet template that tracks the trend, not just one number.
- Have accounts in several places and want them on one page.
- Want to see how paying down the mortgage and saving for retirement show up together.
Not for you if you
- Want balances pulled in from your bank automatically. You type them; the file does not connect to accounts.
- Want budgeting and goals in the same file. Try the Personal Finance Excel Template.
How it works
- Open the file. It comes filled with 18 months of sample balances.
- Check the sample. Open Sample check and see every row show ✓.
- List your accounts. Replace the sample on Accounts, set the first month, and type balances at the end of each month.
Questions
Does it work in Excel and Google Sheets?
Yes. You get an Excel file (.xlsx) and a Google Sheets version, so you can update it on your phone in the Sheets app.
How often should I update it?
Once a month is enough. Use the balances on or near the last day of the month so the months compare fairly.
Should I include my home and car?
Yes, at a realistic value, with the mortgage and car loan as debts. The Summary also shows your net worth without home equity, which some people prefer to watch.
How many accounts and months does it hold?
Up to 25 assets, 15 debts and 24 months. For a third year, save a copy and start the new file where the old one ends.
Is it safe to keep account details in it?
Keep only names and balances. Do not type full account numbers or passwords.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. If the template does not work for you, email [email protected] within 30 days of buying and you get your money back. See the refund policy.
