Personal Finance Excel Template
Your budget, spending, net worth and savings goals in one workbook, with a dashboard for the whole year.
What's inside
One workbook, in Excel + Google Sheets. A personal finance Excel template for the whole picture: what comes in, what goes out, what you own and owe, and what you are saving for.
- Start here: six steps and what the colors mean.
- Dashboard: net worth and how it changed since January, income and spending so far this year, and your savings rate, with charts of net worth by month and income against spending.
- Categories: up to 30 income, expense and savings categories with an optional monthly budget.
- Transactions: one row per payment with a category drop-down. Room for 2,000 rows.
- Year: every category across all 12 months, with totals, a monthly average and the budget.
- Net worth: up to 20 accounts, assets and debts, with a balance for each month. Total assets, total debts and net worth are worked out.
- Goals: up to 8 savings goals with a target and a date. You see what is left, the months to go, how much to save each month, and a progress bar.
- Sample check: a full sample year with the answers worked out separately. Every row shows ✓ when the formulas are right.
Who it's for
A good fit if you
- Want one finance tracker template instead of a budget here, a net worth list there and goals in your head.
- Check in once a month and want to see whether the year is going the right way.
- Prefer a file you own to another app subscription.
Not for you if you
- Only need a monthly budget. The Google Sheets Budget Template is simpler.
- Want investment tracking by stock or fund, or advice on what to invest in.
How it works
- Open the file. It comes filled with a sample household's full year.
- Check the sample. Open Sample check and see every row show ✓.
- Type in your own. Set your categories and accounts, delete the sample rows, then add transactions as you go and balances once a month.
Questions
Does it work in Excel and Google Sheets?
Yes. You get an Excel file (.xlsx) and a Google Sheets version with the same formulas.
How is net worth worked out?
Once a month you type the balance of each account. Assets minus debts is your net worth, and the Dashboard shows the latest month and the change since January.
Does it connect to my bank?
No. Nothing leaves your file. You add transactions yourself or paste them from a bank download.
What is the savings rate?
Income minus spending, divided by income. Money you move to savings or retirement is not counted as spending.
Can I keep using it next year?
Yes. Change the year and the summaries move with it. For net worth, start a fresh copy each January or keep last year's for comparison.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. If the template does not work for you, email [email protected] within 30 days of buying and you get your money back. See the refund policy.
