Expense Tracker Spreadsheet
Log every expense in seconds and see where the money went, by category, by month and by how you paid.
What's inside
One workbook, in Excel + Google Sheets. An expense tracker template that shows where the money goes, without a budget to keep up:
- Start here: four steps and what the colors mean.
- Dashboard: pick a month and see what you spent, how it compares with last month and your monthly average, your biggest category and how many expenses you logged, with charts of spending by month and by category.
- Categories: up to 30 categories with an optional monthly limit, and a list of payment methods you can edit.
- Expenses: date, description, category, payment method and amount, with drop-downs. Room for 2,000 expenses. A red warning flags anything missing.
- Monthly: an expenses breakdown by category for each month, with totals and averages. A month turns red when a category goes over its limit.
- By payment method: cash, debit, credit card and the rest, month by month, with each one's share.
- Sample check: six months of sample expenses with the answers worked out separately. Every row shows ✓ when the formulas are right.
