Monthly Budget Excel Template
A tab for every month of the year, each with its own budget and spending log, and a year summary that adds them up.
What's inside
One workbook, in Excel + Google Sheets. A budget Excel template laid out the way many people like it: one tab for each month, each a complete budget on its own.
- Start here: four steps and what the colors mean.
- Plan: your usual monthly budget, set once, for income, fixed costs, variable costs and savings and debt.
- Jan to Dec: twelve month tabs. Each starts from the Plan, lets you adjust a line for that month (more for gifts in December, say), and has its own spending log of 80 rows. Actual spending adds up on the same tab.
- Year summary: the twelve months side by side: income, spending, savings, what is left, and how each month compares with the budget.
- Dashboard: four numbers for the month you pick, a chart of the year and a chart of budget against actual by category.
- Sample check: four months of a sample budget with the answers worked out separately. Every row shows ✓ when the formulas are right.
The sample, so you know what to expect
Two people with $6,500 take-home pay, January to April. In April they spend $4,354.04, 98% of the budget, and still have $1,165.96 left after $1,230 to savings and debt. One line is over: car care, $412.60 against $75, for new brakes.
Who it's for
A good fit if you
- Like a budget Excel sheet where each month is its own tab you can open, print and close.
- Want a simple budget that still shows the whole year.
- Want to change one month's budget without touching the others.
Not for you if you
- Prefer one long transaction list for the year. The Google Sheets Budget Template works that way.
- Do not want to log purchases at all. The Budgeting Worksheets take one total per line.
How it works
- Open the file. It comes filled with four sample months.
- Check the sample. Open Sample check and see every row show ✓.
- Plan, then log. Set your Plan once, clear the sample months, and log spending on each month's tab as it happens.
Questions
Does it work in Excel and Google Sheets?
Yes. You get an Excel file (.xlsx) and a Google Sheets version.
What if I spend in a month but log it on the wrong tab?
A row dated outside the tab's month turns red and is not counted, so you can move it to the right tab.
Can I change the budget for just one month?
Yes. Each month tab has an Adjust column. Type +100 or −50 on a line and only that month's budget changes.
How many purchases fit in a month?
80 rows per month tab. Group small items, such as one grocery row per week, if you need more room.
Is savings counted as spending?
No. Savings and debt payments have their own block, so "left over" shows what is truly unassigned.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. If the template does not work for you, email [email protected] within 30 days of buying and you get your money back. See the refund policy.
